Day 2: June 18, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM at Backdoor Studio, McMinnville.

Class Description: This class focuses on creating a lidded gourd bowl. On Day 1, the instructor will provide an uncut gourd, and students will learn to cut, clean, sand, and paint the inside of the gourd in Jane’s garage in King City. On Day 2, the session will shift to McMinnville, where participants will learn the vinyl resist method to create a leaf-like illusion on the gourd's surface. No prior painting experience is required. The bottom of the gourd will be painted and woven with knotless netting. Including the gourd, waxed linen thread, drill bit, needles, and finishing materials will be provided.
List of Tools and Additional Materials Required:
Day 1: Cleaning and cutting tools (optional, provided if not available), apron, dust mask, folding chair.
Day 2: Cordless drill, scissors, compass, pencil, wet wipes, apron.

Coiling on a Gourd the Basics 

You will learn to open coil on a ready to weave gourd, how to start and stop weaving, how to add thread, how to add beads, and how to close coil adding color to the design. Materials you will use are pre-cut hard shell gourd, hand-dyed cord, waxed Linen thread, glass beads. The finish gourd measure 5" x 5" x 3"

Mix-it Up, Coiling, Knotless Netting and Couching on a gourd

 Learn to use several weaving techniques to create a piece of art. You will combine knotless netting, couching, beading and open/closed coiling on a hard-shell gourd. With these techniques you can create a simple or elaborate weaving.                         

Supplies included in the kit: drill bit, needle, tiger tape, ready-to-weave gourd, waxed linen cord, dyed cord, beads and step by step color photo instructions.
