A Little Filigree

Technique description: In the class we will discuss different types of filigree designs and how to do them. You will make yourself a reference gourd.

You need to bring: A good size gourd shard with a thickness of not more than 1/2”. OR, bring a cleaned and cut open gourd. Any size or shape will do. Same thickness restrictions.

List of Tools and additional materials students will need for class:

· Rotary carving tool with Filiburr or Zip cutter or comparable.

· Mask

· Apron

Claudia will have filiburrs and zip cutters for sale.

Coiling on a Gourd the Basics 

You will learn to open coil on a ready to weave gourd, how to start and stop weaving, how to add thread, how to add beads, and how to close coil adding color to the design. Materials you will use are pre-cut hard shell gourd, hand-dyed cord, waxed Linen thread, glass beads. The finish gourd measure 5" x 5" x 3"

Mix-it Up, Coiling, Knotless Netting and Couching on a gourd

 Learn to use several weaving techniques to create a piece of art. You will combine knotless netting, couching, beading and open/closed coiling on a hard-shell gourd. With these techniques you can create a simple or elaborate weaving.                         

Supplies included in the kit: drill bit, needle, tiger tape, ready-to-weave gourd, waxed linen cord, dyed cord, beads and step by step color photo instructions.
