About the event

At our August PDX Patch meeting, we'll be making name tags to wear at each patch and state meeting. I've been cutting shards for everyone to use, but feel free to bring your own—just remember you’ll need to do the final sanding and shaping. We'll have a wood burning station ready with several burners and a variety of tips, including skew, ball, and writing, so you can get creative. Bring along any paints, inks, dyes, acrylic pens, gold leaf, or anything else you’d like to use to finish your name tag.

If you need a hand with finishing the coiling on your gourd, I’ll be around to help with those last touches.

Learn to use several weaving techniques to create a piece of art. On a hard-shell gourd, you'll combine knotless netting, couching, beading, and open/closed coiling. With these techniques, you can create simple or elaborate weaving. You will be able to choose from several color combinations of painted, pre-finished gourds, hand-dyed cord, thread, and beads. You don't need to know how to weave to take this class. The first day of class you will learn to open and close coil and add beads to the design. The second day of class you will learn to knotless net to a couched row of cord. Materials supplied: drill bit, needle, tiger tape, 5" to 6” ready-to-weave gourd, waxed linen cord, hand-dyed cord, beads, mini awl and step by step color photo instructions.

Tools needed: Drill, awl, scissors, pencil, apron
