May 22, 2024, Window Collage and Painted Gourd with Patricia McRae

This class combines collage and painting to create

a layered design on a gourd. A woven rim that complements the final design finishes the gourd. This class is based on a class

taught by Glenda Goodrich with the substrate being a flat surface. I modified this process for a gourd as the substrate.

Special techniques include the collage itself which

combines things like colorful papers, old sheet music, stamps (or color copies of anything), maps, etc. I have used sheet music, stamps, photos of special things/people, poetry, etc.

Stenciling a design on the collage and then painting

around the drawn stencil highlights the stencil design but still allows the underlying collage to show through.
