About the event

 Description of Weaving Technique: Coiling involves taking a “core” material and wrapping it, then sewing the materials together to create a spiral.  

Description of Class: Learn to coil using hand-dyed Danish cord with waxed linen thread. Add rows of beads as you sculpture the shape of your weaving into a vase. Add a row of closed coiling to the edge for a pop of color. 

Kit: a 5” to 5 ½” gourd (metallic finish with matching interior), hand-dyed Danish cord to match the gourd, needles, a drill bit, waxed linen thread, 6/0 beads, Tiger Tape. 

Tools need: Drill, awl, scissors, pencil, apron, person light is helpful. 

This is a fun class where you will learn to design a Cannon Ball gourd to create a Luminary, wood burn the design, stain sections with ink dye or use metal leafing, then drill holes for light to show through. 

I will provide a 5" Cannon Ball gourd, a stick and burn design, ink dye, Tiger Tape, metal leafing, adhesive, and a mini gourd to make a finial, as well as my doorknob hole bits to drill a hole in the bottom of the gourd for a light or stand. Light, finial or stand are not included in the kit. 

Tools needed: scissors, drill, 2 small size drill bits such as 1/16", 5/64", or 3/32", awl, wood burner with a skew and ball tip, small paint brush, fine tip applicators, gourd scrapers.

Non-members: 

“NWG will allow unfilled by Guild member slots be made available to non-members, with the following conditions: (1) Non-members cannot displace a Guild member who signs up at least 15 days before the class date; (2 Non-members) pay class/instructor fees + an additional $10.00 for fee space; (3) Non-members will be put on a wait list until 15 days before the class date.

Cancellation Policy: 

If you must cancel after deadline, you will receive a refund of your class fee minus $10 handling fees only if we have a waiting list. If we are unable to fill your space, you will not receive a refund.

Coiling techniques used are open, closed, and floating. Choose from an array of colorful gourds, cord, and thread to create this project. Kit includes: pre-finished gourd, hand-dyed Danish cord, waxed linen thread, drill bit, needle, Tiger Tape, beads, and step-by-step color instructions.

Coiling on a Gourd the Basics 

You will learn to open coil on a ready to weave gourd, how to start and stop weaving, how to add thread, how to add beads, and how to close coil adding color to the design. Materials you will use are pre-cut hard shell gourd, hand-dyed cord, waxed Linen thread, glass beads. The finish gourd measure 5" x 5" x 3"

Mix-it Up, Coiling, Knotless Netting and Couching on a gourd

 Learn to use several weaving techniques to create a piece of art. You will combine knotless netting, couching, beading and open/closed coiling on a hard-shell gourd. With these techniques you can create a simple or elaborate weaving.                         

Supplies included in the kit: drill bit, needle, tiger tape, ready-to-weave gourd, waxed linen cord, dyed cord, beads and step by step color photo instructions.
